BSBMGT517 Manage operational plan

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and monitor implementation of the operational plan to provide efficient and effective workplace practices within the organisation’s productivity and profitability plans.

Three (3) assessment events must be completed for competency to be attained. All assessments are to be completed individually.

Assignment Task

Select a Not for profit organisation that operates in Australia and research its vision, mission and values to determine an understanding of the organisation. You will be the manager of the Fundraising and Engagement area of the orgaisation you have chosen and you will undertake the appropriate research and evaluation of the organisation’s strategic focus to prepare an operational plan for your team. You will need to determine the activities you will undertake, the resources you will require, prepare a plan for acquiring and managing resources

(physical and human), prepare a budget for the proposal,

You may decide to create a public event with details decided by the project team. Some considerations may be fundraising, entertainment, food, information tent, and communication and advertising.

You are required to increase engagement with stakeholders and increase fundraising return by a minimum of 10%. This should be justified using your research.

The Operational plan will be used in BSBPMG522 Undertake Project Work to guide your team in the implementation phase of the task.  

Assessment Event 1 – Written Operational Plan– individual (1,500 – 2,000 words maximum) Report Format  

You need to research your organisaton to gather research to determine the strategic approach and current efficiencies and where possible improvements can be made. Outline your plan and provide:

  1. Background of the organisation
  2. Analysis on current organizational policies and procedures 3. Outline of your plan
  3. Identify objectives for the plan
  4. Resource requirements (include costs in the budget)
    • Identify any specialist services that may be consulted
  5. Identification of risks, an action plan to manage risks and
    • How contingency planning is undertaken
  6. Identification of stakeholders and a plan to communicate with them
  7. KPIs and people responsible for their delivery
  8. Approach to recruitment and training
  9. Staff recruitment plan and check list Create a performance management system? - How will you assess under performance?
  10. Include a budget for all costs
  11. Identify any relevant legislation that impact the organisaton and the plan

All written reports should use report format including the following:

Table of contents

Executive summary

Appropriate paragraphs and headings

Page numbers

Text size - Maximum 12pt type face text

A Report Template has been provided on the className Moodle to assist in preparing the assessment.

Assessment Event 2 – Knowledge Quiz

All group members will participate in a knowledge quiz to your understanding of the key theories, terms and principles of this area of study.  

Assessment Event 3 - Verbal Presentation – Duration 15 minutes maximum

This will be a simulated presentation to your supervisor and other appropriate stakeholders and should deliver your operational plan for comment and approval.

The verbal presentation should be prepared using your choice of presentation software i.e. PowerPoint, Prezi etc. and any other visual aids or props needed to make your presentation interesting.  Your presentation should be of a high standard, well-rehearsed and professional.

You should include appropriate data and evidence to support your strategies.

Your presentation should include:

  1. Introduction of the topic and presenter
  2. Overview of the organisation including – Background, etc.
  3. Overview of the operational plan
  4. An explanation of the main strategies
  5. Reasons for the selection of these strategies
  6. Expected results and how you intend to measure them.

Tip: You should avoid reading from handouts and the slides. It is best to have notes for reference and use them to support your presentation as you speak about your topic. You should be appropriately dressed for your client and industry.
