There are many programs available for looking at text corpora and ana-lyzing the data that you see. In general, however, we assume that readers will be writing their own software, and so all the software that is really needed is a plain text editor, and a compiler or interpreter for a lan-guage of choice. However, certain other tools, such as ones for searching through text corpora can often be of use. We briefly describe some such tools later.
