This is a group project intended to represent the culmination of your Hotel Simulation (HOTS) business decisions undertaken during this unit. So far you have reached the end of managing your resort for 2 simulated years. This project involves the review of results from your balance scorecard through performance indicators. Based on the balanced scorecard results, you will introduce new products or services to attract, retain customers and continue the growth and sustainability of your resort. Please refer to the background information of the hotel found under the HOTS folder on Blackboard.

PREPARATION

Before starting this assignment, you should have read all assessment materials provided on Blackboard and consulted with your Lecturer for additional instructions and support. Please refer to the marking rubric for this proposal on Blackboard to see marking criteria and achievement expectation. 

ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

For this assignment, you have to form a group of not more than 4 members, you are tasked with reviewing results from your balance scorecard through performance indicators that you have been managing through HOTS. This is an opportunity for your group to review the balance scorecard through performance indicators and introduce new products or services to attract, retain customers and continue the growth and sustainability of your resort. Your group report should include:

  1. Reviewing the key indicators of your resort such as but not limited to (attach your balance scorecard in your report):
    • REVPAR
    • Gross Operating Profit o Market share o ROCE
    • Guest satisfaction o Staff satisfaction o ADR
    • Occupancy rate o Public awareness o   Hotel quality index o           Annual staff turnover
  2. Explain why the performance is good / poor and strategies on how these key indicators can be improved.
  3. Identify potential new products / services that you would like to implement for the resort o The target market for your new products / services. o        The benefits of your new products / services.
    • The success and/or failure of similar types of products in other resort organisations o What sets your product apart from the competition

The Strategic Plan should be 3,000 words (+/- 10%) – excluding references, and appendices. Referencing should be in the APA Style (see Resources below for Tip Sheet). The report must be suitably referenced with a minimum of 10 academic references and may include photographs, maps, tables, diagrams, illustrations. 

Any student who wishes to defer the submission of an assignment must apply to the lecturer before the due date for an extension of the time within which to submit the assignment. The application must be in writing and must set out the grounds on which extension is sought.

An assignment submitted after the fixed or extended time for submission shall incur a penalty to be calculated as follows:

  • where the assignment is submitted not more than 5 working days late, the penalty shall, for each working day that it is late, be 5% of the maximum assessment available for the assignment; or • where the assignment is more than 5 working days late, a mark of zero shall be awarded.

Apart from the references provided above, students should be conducting secondary research using the ECU library database.
