Cois 12036 Human Computer Interaction-Museum Assessment Answer

Develop high-fidelity prototype. Based on the user test feedback and recommendations that you proposed in the previous phase (Project A), develop a high-fidelity prototype (i.e. reasonably complete version) for the website. Use any combination of HTML5 and CSS3. Remember to indicate which browser (i.e. IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, etc.) you are
targeting as the main working platform. For the purpose of this project, please exclude mobile devices that runs on fragmented or closed-system technology, such as Android, Apple iOS and Nook. Do not use Rapid Application Prototyping (RAD) tools or any other type of scripting languages or services, eg. Python, Lua, AJAX, Dreamweaver, WordPress etc.

Carry out user acceptance test. Devise two walkthrough scenarios. For example,“Instruct the user to visit the Robot section, look up two artefacts, exit and select Vechicle section and look up four other artefact.” Apply this walkthrough scenario to your test subjects. Invite 3 to 4 potential users (e.g. friends, family members, classmates should be fine, etc.) to play the role of users. You do not need to provide their names.
Ask each of the users to perform all the walkthrough scenarios you have devised. Apply appropriate techniques to determine how the website performs under these test conditions. Systematically collect data on the user performance. For example, how long did each of the users take to complete each of the scenarios Did the users find the interface easy or challenging to use Does the interface allow users to change their minds Etc. Refer to your textbook for more detailed and appropriate parameters that suits your requirements.

Identify features. Identify any one or two features of the website that you think deserves particular attention. An example of a feature is, draw attention to interface design elements that are particularly innovative, e.g. visitors can call up a mini navigational ‘menu bar’ from any page.

Recommendation. From the outcome of the user acceptance test, provide recommendations on how the high-fidelity prototype can be improved. Assertions made in your recommendation need to be supported by the test results you have carried out earlier.
Write a report. Produce a report to document the tasks and the outcome of your efforts undertaken for Project B. Remember, this report is intended for your employers. You need to document and support the viability of your website that is, to convince your employer that your webpage is performing as intended.
Answer:

Museum of Science and Technology outsourced development of a website to an IT firm. The purpose of the website was to showcase the items available in the museum and provide information about the facility including operating hours, location, and fees charged.

After completing the previous project phases, we are now at the last stage of the project. This stage involves incorporating feedback provided in the last phases to refine the prototype developed in the previous phase. This report aims at discussing the changes made to the prototype as well as analysing feedback from users and discuss further recommendations pertaining to this prototype.

1.1 Content

A range of design principles were considered during the design of the new website prototype. These principles include fast load times, clarity, appropriate typefaces, complementary colours, easy navigation, and being mobile friendly.

1.2 Purpose

The purpose of the website is to enable the public to learn about the items showcased at the museum and find information about the museum opening hours, location, and fees charged. This information is organized in different pages of the website. Each category of items is placed in a specific page where all items within the same category can be viewed. There is also a page providing museum’s copyright statement.

1.3 Communication

Effective tactics are used in the design to enable the design to communicate clearly. The information is organized using headlines while images are given labels which assist users to identify their purpose.

1.4 Typefaces

Typefaces are a key aspect of the website design. Using many different fonts may undermine the effectiveness of the design (Rogers, 2015). Only one font used throughout the website.

1.5 Colour

Various contrasting colours are used in the design. They include white, dark blue, and black. The text displayed on the website has either a black or white colour. Text in the footer and navigation has a white colour which is visible against the dark blue background. Text in the content section has a black colour which contrasts the white background.

1.6 Navigation

The website incorporates a navigation bar which is placed at the top of all web pages. This enables users to navigate the website and easily find the information they need (Sklar, 2015).

1.7 Layout

2 Features

The Museum of Science and Technology website has two main features. The homepage displays an interactive floor layout which users can click to visit a specific section of the museum. The website also has a gallery of items showcased at the museum. Each page displays a specific category of items.

3 User Acceptance Test

User acceptance test was conducted using four subjects. These test subjects were IT professionals with skills in web development and testing. The users assessed the website to determine its functionality, usability, and its ease of use.

3.1 Usability / Walkthroughs

Website usability was assessed by having the users try to navigate the site. The users tried one walkthrough. The walkthrough emphasized on the users finding a specific item available in one section of the museum. The average time of the walkthrough was 15 seconds.

Time spent in  navigating the site

3.2 Functionality and Ease of Use

After performing the walkthrough, users were familiar with the website. They were asked to provide feedback on the ease of use of the website interface. Their responses are as shown below.

                                                                            Functionality

                                                                                     Ease of Use

3.3 Summary of Testing

After completion of the tests, the findings indicate that users can easily navigate the website quickly and find specific information they seek without any challenges.

4 Recommendation

After analysing the findings of the user acceptance test, the website was found to easy to use for the target audience. However, it was recommended to make some adjustments to improve usability. The users recommended the design to include animation to enhance interactivity of the website.

5 Conclusion

In conclusion, Museum of Science and technology have an effective website prototype that allows their target audience view information about the items available as well as information about the facility. The first phase of the website development involved refining the prototype based on previous feedback and conducing usability test.  Recommendations have been provided to help improve the website before it is deployed.
