Hothouse Earth

Climate Change: 'Hothouse Earth' Risks Even If CO2 Emissions Slashed

The argument centers on the severity of climate change, which is expected to increase despite immense efforts to reduce and mitigate greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions. Forests, oceans, and land trap tonnes of carbons that can cause rising temperatures if released into the atmosphere. Anthropogenic activities such as forest harvesting is expected to release much carbon into the atmosphere and exacerbate the problem of climate change. As the author outlines, the earth will become a hothouse because of the massive carbon volumes from forests and oceans (McGrath, 2018). Governments and non-governmental organization are working together to tame the rising temperatures below 20 Celsius. As people anticipate an increased release of CO2 into the atmosphere, the prospects of reaching an all-time temperature peak are high (McGrath, 2018). Scientists warn that the earth will be the main means of controlling the temperatures when the peak is reached, and the natural systems will act again humanity.

I agree with the sentiments outlined in the article. Currently, the record global temperatures are above 10 Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels. There is also an exponential increase in temperatures Moreover, scientists suggest that temperature levels rise by 0.170 Celsius every decade. Therefore, when forests and oceans start to release the reserved carbon, the rate of increase will increase and surpass the limit aimed by climate change scientists and activists (Betts, 2018). Current happenings across the world affirm that temperatures will rise, and the earth will become a ‘hothouse.’ Unless rapid action is taken, the ‘hothouse’ scenario will produce the highest global temperatures than any other time in the world.
